San Miguel

I know that this blog is all about starting over in Ventura.  But in order to start over we need to "finish up" the house on San Miguel.  Today we started painting our beautiful Cedar shingles.  Oh what a job this is going to be.  We bought a paint sprayer and at first we didn't think it was going to be worth it.  But as Bruce got used to using it, it became clear this is a much faster way to go.  Though as he sprayed, I rolled with a paint roller to smooth out over sprayed areas and to touch places he missed.  Looks like it's going to take two coats and possibly 3 to cover it all.  We nearly drained a 5 gallon bucket of paint and only have 2/3s of the back of the house done.  Bought 3 more 5 gallon buckets.  Hopefully that will be enough.  The first pictures show the bottom row of shingles next to the sewing room door unpainted....that's where we ran out.  The second picture is of the soffits.  Part painted part not.
It's hard to tell whether things are covered or not because of the texture of the shingles.   As hard as the back side of the house has been, I ache for Bruce doing the front of the house.  He'll have to do it on an extension ladder which means a lot of up and down because you can only reach so far.  Plus he keeps twisting his back.  Ouch.

After this is done, then we have to paint all the trim a darker brown.  I'm sorry that the color is so close to the stucco color; I was afraid of that.  Hopefully the brown trim will break it up.

Just hope we're not so pooped after this week that we don't have the energy for scrapping the rest of the ceilings down in Ventura next week.
