Happy New Year Everyone! May we all have a healthy and prosperous new year.
We have settled on the cabinets. To fray some of the costs we're going with maple instead of cherry. The finish is called Mocha, but looks more like a dark pecan to me. I'm happy with the color; it has more red in it than the original Autumn that came in the cherry wood. Tomorrow (Jan 5th) we go in to finalize the order. We'll stop and get the sink ordered too.
Over the weekend we started packing up some of the kitchen. It's amazing how much stuff one accumulates. Trying to figure out what to pack and what not to...since we're Still cooking has been a challenge. Figure everything on shelves I can't reach without a foot stool is fair game for packing first.
Well, it's Monday now and demo is well on it's way. I couldn't stand sitting around waiting. Have most of the rarely used stuff packed. Dishware and pans and food are all that's left. Our tenant Dave showed up with the rent check just in time. Bruce had the oven half out, but it was too heavy for me to help and we couldn't find anything to slide under it. Dave is a strong guy and helped Bruce muscle it to the floor. The handtruck took care of getting it to the garage. Guess there's no turning back now!
Just as a reminder of what the kitchen looked like. Here are some pictures before we moved in. There is a dishwasher, but it was never hooked up. The the infamous oven that sticks out into the garage. That white "box" with the flowers stenciled on it is the oven and cabinets.

As I finish typing this up and posting it, Bruce is cutting a piece of plywood to cover the hole. The temperatures have been down in the 30s in the mornings, so we need to get this closed up.
We're pleased with how much we've done on the first day. And really just the first afternoon. Once the cabinets are all empty and the refrigerator is moved into the dining area we'll really get the demo going. You can't tell, but I'm sitting here with a BIG grin on my face.
