Kitchen Remodel Day 2 and 3

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Ordered our cabinets.  Brookhaven, shaker style in a Mocha.  Don't know why they call it Mocha when it's a deep pecan red.  All I know is I like it.  Also got the sink ordered from the plumbing shop.

Spent a lot of time going from store to store to store looking for the right parts.  They sell you a Filter System but not the parts you need to get it hooked up!!

Dishwasher got pulled out.  Drain pipe elbow looks like its made out of duct tape.  Until we decide to go into full demo mode, we're not messing with it.  Once the water gets turned off to the kitchen and the sink removed, then we'll see what we have there.

Mud Sill
Bruce got the mud sill in the hole where the oven cabinet had been.  They had cut it out. The cabinet looked like (if you look at yesterday's pictures) it was sitting on a pallet.  I thought they had stuffed plastic bags in there for some reason.  Actually it was a rat's nest.  Bruce was kind enough not to show me.  It had been vacant for some time.  YUK.

Drain pipe-Kitchen and washer
Water pipe inside cabinet
Bruce pulled out the cabinet next to where the dishwasher was.  OMG.  Got a good view of the drain pipe where it goes into the slab.  Got a good view of the outside too unfortunately. They cut out the mud sill where the drain pipe comes up from the slab, and left it as it.  From the outside you can't see anything because the siding hangs down over the mud sill.  But from the inside we can see day light coming through.  There was evidence of rat droppings under the cabinet.  Bruce filled the area with cement.

In the meantime there has been a thunder storm going on outside.  It's suppose to let up tomorrow and Friday and then hit us again Saturday.   Our back yard was underwater. Wish I had a picture of Bruce on the ladder peering over the fence.  Water back there was up to the first run of the ladder.   Not knocking the rain; heaven knows we need it. Just wish it would come in smaller doses over a longer period of time.  At least the water has drained off now.  There's a 6 foot drop to the neighbor's yard behind us.  That's their second story windows you see.  The left side of the house was flooded too.
