Master Bed/Bath Speculation

We know that the stucco has never been patched or redone at anytime on the outside of the house.   We also know that any stud or sheet rock work has to be done BEFORE the stucco work; otherwise, the stucco cracks.  These things we know as fact.

There are two closets in the master bedroom; on opposite sides of the room.  "My" closet is the one that opened both from the bed room side and from the bathroom side.   Our plan is to sheet rock the bathroom side (back of my closet).  This will finally give us a wall to put up towel racks.

 

In tearing out the sheet rock Bruce discovered several things.  One, was the "header" over the bedroom side of the closet isn't supported by anything but sheet rock.  The other puzzling thing is that it appears that a window had been framed in the wall of the closet.

 

People in the neighborhood have told us that "they" (the original owners) had taken out a walk in closet and put in the two sided closet.  With the plumbing in the slab, we couldn't quite figure out how they did that.

Our speculation is that they purchased the house when it was still under construction.  They had them put in the current bathroom window.  Change the plumbing around and add the second closet to the room.  We'll know more when we rip out the bathroom and add the laundry room.

In my wildest dreams I would have loved to have put a walk-in closet big enough for both of us where the shower and toilet is; moving those to the other end (window end) of the bath room.  That way we could close up Bruce's closet and have one wall to put the bed against rather than having it under the window.  But if wishes were $$ we'd all be rich.   Below is how it is and how I'd love it to be....but won't.  I will get my laundry room someday, but the closet isn't changing nor the layout of the shower and toilet.  Just too hard to move those things when you're dealing with a slab foundtation.

Don't know if the pictures shows this well enough...the stud to the right is at an angle.  It's as though they cut it too long and rather than go cut off a quarter of an inch they just jammed it in as far as it would go and said good enough!
