Walnut Creek
There will be a lot of details about meals and uninteresting facts, but we're always saying what did we eat that day or what did we do...so this is our log.
Left Ventura at 5:30 and arrived in San Ramon to have an early lunch with my friend Selma. After lunch we went to Walnut Creek and unloaded everything. Took my sewing machine down to have it serviced.
Bruce found the curtain rod that we used to have in our bedroom and I was able to steal the main carrier from it to replace the broken one over the sliding door. Got that fixed. Riveted 3 new snaps on fabric and got them sewn on the drapes that had been pulled by hand and thus tearing out the rivets. Now all the drapes work perfectly. Saves of thousands of dollars in new drapes. Still need to have them all cleaned.
While we were home I made drapes for the door in my old sewing room that goes out to the patio.
Had dinner at El Faro and got gas at Costco. Went grocery shopping in hopes to eat in more than we have been. Rented a movie and went to bed early.

Orinda
Orinda
Had breakfast in, Burger King for lunch, but as I write this at 5:15pm, there's no way I feel like cooking tonight.
Bruce met with Bill to discuss details of what to do with the Orinda house. And the decision is to sell "as is". Bill suggested to do nothing. But Bruce is wise enough to know that even if people know it's a "tear down" they have to be able to visualize the possibilities of the property. To that end we spent the day tearing down the raised planter beds our tenants had put in. (We told them they could.) There were 5 of them inside a fenced area (lots of deer around), and 3 or 4 smaller ones around the house. Under the "garden" area was filter fabric with tan bark on top.
- Note: I had to re-edit this because I had everything we did Friday on Thursday....totally lost a day. (Writing this Sat. night - really need to do this daily because my brain can't remember anything anymore!)
We ended up at Panda Express for dinner. Then went to Costco in Concord. Watched the movie "The Other Woman". It had it's funny moments.

Orinda
Breakfast at Jack in the Box in Lafayette, made turkey sandwiches for lunch and had dinner at Mt. Mikes in W.C. small pizza, salad and much needed beer!
Bruce also worked on the back hill. Weed whacking the dead grass and overgrown ground cover. I worked on the garage side of the property. Cutting back the juniper and the ivy. I know it doesn't sound like much but it took hours. Filling about 6 50 gallon bags. We took a load to the dump of nothing but wood from the planter boxes and wood that was left on the side of the garage.
Rented a movie which was really, really bad. "They Came Together". DON'T rent it.

Jack in the Box in Pleasant Hill, Nations for lunch and dinner in of tuna sandwiches and carrot/raisin salad.
After breakfast we went to Home Depot for a new slider hand/lock for the WC house and through bolts for the small garage door. The hinges and springs where bent somehow. They didn't have anything we needed so we went on to Orinda.
Bruce finished weed whacking the back hill. I finished up the garage side of the property. Together we finished trimming back the side "lawn" area. Cutting back oleanders, pyracantha bush, black berries and more juniper, oh and the never ending ivy. Bagged up 5 more bag fulls. Bruce took another load to the dump.
While he was gone I finished some trimming and watered the few living plants. Been collecting all the beautiful rocks from Uncle "Rocky's" collection that dad had. Going to bring them back to Ventura and put them in my own garden somewhere. It will be an Uncle Rocky memorial garden. (For those of you who don't know, Uncle Rocky was Bruce's older brother, Ron. Alissa called him Rocky when she was learning to talk. Julie was living with us at the time and she really pushed the whole name thing and it stuck).
We had brought over all the boxes of painting and drywall supplies when we thought we were going to fix up the house. So we loaded it all plus the bed the tenants left behind. It's actually the first bed we ever bought. Asked if they wanted it so had left it there for them. Now it's back home. Still the best mattress in the world. We'll keep it here for Miss Molly when the kids come up for Maggie's wedding next month. Then I'm sure it will be time to say good bye to it for the final time. Bought it in 1973....it's time.
No movie tonight. Bruce is reading and I'm finishing this up. Have accounting to do.

Walnut Creek
Breakfast at home in Walnut Creek; lunch at Casper's; Dinner with the Nagles at Chef Chow.
We spent the day in Walnut Creek. Bruce took apart the patio slider; the rollers are shot and make a terrible noise, but he got them leveled so it's much better. I worked on cleaning and greasing all the window tracks so that all the windows slide easily. Really need to do that at home too. I forget what a difference it makes.
Went to Home Depot out in San Ramon and found the black slider door handle and new rollers. Also got another re-keying set for the Schlage locks. Bruce worked on getting all our old locks rekeyed and reinstalled. Why she changed all the locks to Quiksets is a mystery when she didn't change the front door lock.. Since we got new rollers for the patio slider, he had to take that down again and work on it. Now the door glides like it's brand new and the lock works well.

Orinda
Breakfast Jack in the Box-WC; lunch at Casper's and dinner at El Faro
Finished working on loading up yard and wood waste for another trip to the dump. I carried 12 12X12 pavers from one side of the property to the other. Collected more of Uncle Rocky's rocks. I know he isn't my uncle, but we always called him that because of Alissa. Old habits are hard to break.
After a trip to the dump we met our neighbor Chuck at Casper's for lunch. Had a nice visit and caught up a bit.
Bruce met with Bill, our Orinda realtor to discuss the listing. He's going to put up a "Coming Soon" sign tomorrow. And will have a "brokers" open house on the 23rd.
Went back to Walnut Creek earlier than usual because we're just beat. Physically and mentally. Had dinner at El Faro and went to Costco to get gas and a few items. Our last trip there we bought one LED retro fit recess light to see how it worked. We have several of the old half dome ones in front and in back of the fireplace that are very "dated". The new one gives off great light. So we bought 3 more. They were on sale for only $13.99. Brand new (not retro fit) cost $42, so this was a great savings. Bruce got them all up including one over the kitchen butcher block.
Rented "Mom's Night out". It was cute.

Orinda
Bruce signed the listing papers with Bill today to put the Orinda house on the market. Wish us luck! Spent most of the day packing up tools and odds and ends so the house and garage are totally empty now. Very strange. So many memories. More of course for Bruce.
Picked up my sewing machine from The Sewing Machine Shop. So glad to finally get it serviced. Don't trust anyone but Dan to do it right.
Mailed back the AT&T modem. Should be getting one for WC this weekend. Activating on Monday night.
We're eating in tonight. Have salad makings. Rented another movie, "Gambit". Hope we don't forget to return it in the morning. Wonder if Red Box in Ventura will take it. :)
Home tomorrow. Can't wait. We'll be back up on Monday for 5 days, then home for several weeks.
