After 56 years the Orinda house is no longer owed by the Bailey's. Very bittersweet. It would have been a wonderful place to build the perfect house. But then as you get older, living on a hill isn't all that appealing.
Mom loved laying out on the patio; she couldn't get enough sunshine. Must have been because she was born in Canada. :)
Bruce and I had our wedding reception there. There was the ever changing wallpaper in the dining room. I always like the green grass paper the best. Holidays were always fun. And the parties were always different even though it was mostly the same group of people. I remember one New Year's Eve party in particular. As always, Mom would do anything to get out of cooking. So she decided we should have an old fashion Box Social. All of us women made a meal for two and the guys shot craps - the winner got first chance to choose a Box. Then they'd have dinner with the gal who made it. It was great fun.
And of course, Alissa loved being over there. Matter of fact when she moved back from San Luis Obispo, she didn't want to move back with her parents, so she moved in with her Grampa until she found a place of her own.
The front yard had a great view. This is a fence that Bruce and I built after the old stake fence finally gave way.
The house will be missed, but the memories will last forever. Goodbye 23 Hillcrest!
