Seems the month has slipped by and I have no idea what we've really done. Well, I haven't done much.
Bruce got all the stucco scrapping and patching done. Then primed it all. He's still scrapping the eaves. We got rid of the 20' extension ladder when we moved, so we need to go buy a new one. Shouldn't there be some law that says a 70 year old man can't buy a 20' ladder??? We have settled on 2 shades of blue for the house. Going with the color we have on the wood now for the stucco and an even darker one on the wood.
He's also has been helping Nick with putting in a wall around their front yard. Nick's been working so much it's slow going.
In between all that, been going down to Pat's house - which from now on will be referred to as 382. Had a furnace guy come out and was of no use. Couldn't turn it on because the transformer is shot. Bruce went down a week later to pull the number off of the transformer to see if he could get it replaced but can't find it.
Sewer was scoped and all looks good. The trees in front have a few roots infringing, but the trees are going to come down as soon. They remind me of some type of Star War alien.
The house will close escrow on the 24th. .. Well it did close, but no one bothered to tell us. Bruce finally talked to someone today to verify that the close happened. Shhhish!
So many things to do, where to start. Before tools can go down, we need to replace the side garage door because it's so rotten anyone can kick it in. A section of the fence needs to come down so we can walk between the houses without the neighbors keeping track of coming and going like they did on the other house. Locks need to be changed.
I've started making cheap cafe curtains to keep prying eyes out and let the light in. That house is darker than this one.
Finished a quilt top but have been too dizzy to get it loaded on the frame to quilt. Was on Methylprednisolone (super prednisone) for 6 days for my hip. Day after I finished the course, I got so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out. That was 4 days ago. Just got some meds to help with the dizziness. Seems my blood pressure is too low, so I get to stop taking my BP meds for awhile. So disappointed..finally got some relief from my hip pain and now I can't stand more than a few minutes before I have to sit down again; then it takes awhile for the whirlies to stop. This is just nonsense. Being off the blood pressure pills have made me gain 5 pounds of water weight.
Below are some pictures of the "new" house. Still to be determined as to what we'll be doing with it. More than likely a rental. Though I'd like to set it up as a "retreat" place for quilters. And for quilt classes. Don't know if we could cover the carrying costs for either of those.
Front of 382. The "alien" trees. Actually the pictures don't make them look bad. The "leaves" droop downward, which you can't see from these pictures.
You also can't see that the house is pink. According to neighbors it used to be bright pink, like the driveway. That's gonna have to change!
These are three of the pictures from before the house was cleaned out. The first is a picture of the dining room. You can tell by the pull down light where a table should be. The second is part of the kitchen. That's a range top under the mess. The last picture is the family room. To the right is the patio door, but you couldn't get to it because of all the stuff. It's really sad to see the way she lived. After her parents died, she didn't move into the master bedroom, just filled it up with stuff. Couldn't get to that bathroom at all. Several hundred books (some you can see on the mantle in the 3 picture.)
Had to edit this and number the pictures cause the posting moved the order they were in.
Bruce had bid to clean it out but they opted to let a son-in-law do it and it probably cost them a lot more. Bruce was willing to set aside everything for their review after all the trash was removed. The SIL used 3 dumpsters and just threw everything in, rather than stacking stuff. We probably could have done it 2. Sigrid is sure things of value got thrown away because her SIL didn't let her go through stuff. She did find some cash in books and other places; so who knows what got thrown out. Feel so sorry for her; she is totally over-whelmed with dealing the "trust" part of the estate.
Bruce was able to catch the metal recycling guy as he was driving by Sunday. Got rid of the refrigerator and the treadmill, plus a bunch of other stuff. We have 4 "large" pick ups a year, so tomorrow some of the other large items are going.
In priming the soffits, Bruce discovered one of the boards was termite riddled, so he has to figure out how to get it out and replaced. This is on our house. Trying to get the 2 walls around the patio painted so we can verify we like the color before we buy two 5 gallon drums of paint. Have a 10% off coupon at Home Depot and want to buy all the high ticket items we can at one time. Paint, 20' ladder, garage door opener and toilet. There is no working toilet down at 382.
Tuesday, 30th - Bruce has painted the two wall around the patio. Doesn't look it but the wall around the patio door is painted with the darker blue. Second picture is half old color (right) and half new blue (left side). The two pictures sure show the colors differently. I think in reality it's a mix of the patio door picture and the darker color in the second picture. Already I can tell we aren't getting as much glare off the walls as we did with the really light blue. Think it's a "go" on buying the rest of the paint!
Ended up not getting the paint. It's going to be awhile before he's finished scrapping and sanding the soffitts. Want to make sure the paint is freshly stirred before using it in the sprayer. Hoping it will be finished before De De and Kevin come in September.
The garage door opener got installed today. Think there's still more work to be done on the side door. Once that's secure and we get a lock for the gate we can open the fence between the two houses.

Jannah, as *always*, I so enjoy your posts. I will admit, though, that I can't quite remember .. is 382 next door to your own house? And that' why you can put a gate between the two houses?
I was shocked and appalled at the interior photos of 382. How horrid to be living in such squalid conditions. I will assume there were mental health issues involved because *surely* no reasonable person would live like that, right?
Since you now have possession of 382, does that mean that progress on your own house is going to slow down?
So sorry to hear of your medication problems. It sure does seem that if it's not one thing, it's another. That you can't find a medication to help in one area without it be detrimental in another. I do fervently hope that you and your medical team can find something that works for you with no ill effects.
