June to End of August

Oh my, were does the time go??

The fence is about where it was the last time I posted.  After getting reimbursed for all the appliance damage and getting things back to "normal" the wind was out of our sails, so to speak.

Bruce stayed busy all summer long helping Nick work on their back yard.  They put in walkways of pavers, built a redwood deck and overhang.  This past week they've been working on a preparing for a planter/seating wall.  Nick's dad is gifting them with an avocado tree.  Still need to put down some sod.  Molly is going to have a wonderful backyard to play in.

Bruce walked a couple of doors down to a garage sale last spring.  When he came home he had a bunch of souvenir baseball caps he uses to work in....and.... he causally said "I think I just bought a house".  One of the son's of the owner was having the garage sale. They had just put their Dad in a rest home. The son and his girl friend had been living there with his Dad for about 5 years.  Bruce casually mentioned to him that if they planned to sell we might be interested.  Dave said they couldn't sell until Dad passed away.

As of today, we own the house.  Bruce just walked down with the rental agreement.  It was always our plan to buy a rental property down here after we sold the Walnut Creek house; but there was/is so much left to do to our house.  The rental gods were smiling down on us. The house is the same floor plan as ours with minor differences here and there.  Bruce said after he inspected the attic he could tell it was the same carpenter driving in the nails that worked on our house...just moving down from house to house.

The owner's son grew up in the house and is very thankful he can stay on as a tenant.   He was unable to buy out his siblings.  The sister had a realtor friend that did the paperwork for a flat fee for her.  There was nothing we had to do.  And there's nothing we have to do to the house at the moment, so it's working out great.  Like I said, the rental gods were smiling on us.

We've spent a lot of time designing a new kitchen.  Alissa was a great help and took what I wanted to do and made it so Bruce liked it too.  Had hoped to get it done this year, but that's not going to happen.  We have a start date of January 5th.  Makes sense to wait till after the holidays even though we spend them at the kids.  Plus I think Bruce needs a rest.   He has a tendency to forget that he's not 35 anymore...or 45 or 55 for that matter. :)

Other than that, not much is new. Molly is growing up right before our eyes and we're loving every minute of it.   She's back in pre-school now.

Been working on quilts and enjoying my new mini-group down here.  It will be a long while before I make the strong friendships I had up north, but working on it.

Molly helped me lay out the mini blocks for my Storm at Sea quilt.  Smart little thing picked up the pattern after the second row.  The finished quilt measures 19 X 23 inches.  Some of the pieces were measured down to the 32nd of an inch.  Crazy me!

Made a dress for Molly, she seemed to like it.  We also have spent the summer working on our garden.  We cut zucchinis off the vine and made zucchini bread together.  Here she is with one of the carrots.  We've been quite impatient waiting for them to get very big. But they make great little snacking carrots and taste so good when you pull them out yourself!
