Wood Siding Painted

Front Eaves Painted
Wood Siding Scraped & Painted

While I was off playing with my quilt friends at the DVQ retreat, Bruce was home scraping the peeling paint off the siding on the front of the house.  There was a lot of patch work of rotten wood.  (So we were both doing "patchwork").  He got the shutters taken off too.  So glad they are gone.

Too PURPLE
He got the eaves painted white in the front and then the job was to select a color.  Since this is just a quick (ha ha about the quick), fix for the front, we wanted to pick colors that will go with the rest of the house, but not need to be redone when we finally get around to repairing the stucco and painting around the sides of the house later on.  Picking colors is always a chore because our tastes are SO different.

Alissa suggested a cream color.  It would go with the light blue that's on the stucco, plus with either green or blue down the road.  So we had the primer tinted so we could check it out.  No good.  The cream just didn't look good with the new roof.  I wanted a Steel Blue in a dark shade.  Bruce didn't like it so we went with something lighter.  Alissa said what we settled on had a lot of red in it.  Unfortunately, I didn't translate that into "blue and red make purple".  I should have, but....  Anyway we spent July 3rd painting and ended up with a very purple house.

Our brilliant daughter came over with the sample colors she painted the dog house and eventually wants to pain her house.  PERFECT!  Our houses are far enough away that it won't matter.  We new we put her through college for a reason! :)

Today we painted the front again.  YEA!  It's steel blue.  Not quite as dark as I had wanted, but am perfectly happy with it.  Bruce even got all the nasty plumbing painted so it doesn't stand out so much.  Got the new porch light up too.  Though it needs to be adjusted.  A wedge put in to make it sit straight on the siding.

Now all we have to do is agree on the stucco color.  Though I think we're going to go with the medium gray on the swatch Alissa brought over.  Not as light as what's there now, but not too dark either.

You know the old saying, if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?  Well a tree fell in Orinda.  So we're coming up next week to survey the situation.

After the retreat, I drove up to Lincoln to spend a few days with another quilt friend.  The daughter of a friend of hers gave me some sour dough starter.  We really miss sour dough bread down here.  Here is my first attempt at sandwich rolls.  They were a little heavy, but tasted good.

Right before my exit off Interstate 5 coming home there was a terrible accident.   I was in the slow lane getting ready to exit when we were stopped by the CHP.  The accident was in the left 2 lanes.  I was front car so had a complete view of the happenings.  Not a fun way to end my trip.  Just thankful, I was not there when it happened.  Got to watch the paramedics at work.  A helicopter landed right in front of me to take one of the victims away.  Scary stuff.

On a brighter note, we've had lots of Molly time.  Wednesday night the five of us went to the Food Truck gathering in Oxnard.  Good food and music in the park.
