Where did April go?

Can't believe its been an entire month since I've posted.  Where does the time go?

Bruce removed the huge bush in the front of the house; the one between the cement porch and walkway.  It was a home for snails and bees.  Though the humming birds loved it.  But I can always put up a feeder at some point.  The clean out for the house drain line was underneath it.  Plus all this nightmare of outdoor plumbing is now visible.  I plan on getting some big pots full of flowers to put in front of it until we get to tearing out all the cement and redoing the front landscaping.  He trimmed the other bushes in front of my sewing room windows too.

On a whim we went for an overnight up to Big Bear Lake.  We wanted to scout out campgrounds.  It was very disappointing as far as camping grounds were concerned.  With the elevation being in the 7,000 we were expecting pine trees.  They were few and far between.  The lake

was beautiful.  We drove around it several times.  The the campsites were dry and for the most part shadeless.  It would be like group camping whether you wanted it or not.  And not too many flat sites for tents.

We did have the "Best" Himalayan food in California.  That's what the menu said and for once it was true.  Such a yummy dinner!

A back breaking day was spent in the attic redoing the wiring along the hall corridor.   Like everything else in this house, it was done the cheapest way possible.  But now we have a light switch at both ends of the hall.  LED lights on a dimmer.  As you can see from the photo the lights are pushed up against the sheet rock yet.  We still need to spackle and paint the ceiling and walls.  No point in pushing them
up tight just yet.

On the 24th of April, Nick and Alissa celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary.   They went for an overnight up in Santa Barbara and Molly had her first night away from Mama and Daddy.  She spends so much time with us, it didn't phase her at all.  Don't know if she woke the dog up or the dog woke her up around midnight, but after picking her up, she signed and pointed that she
wanted to go back to bed.  It was such fun having her, but tiring, she is just a ball of energy.  This picture shows her "multi-tasking", writing on her drawing board, drinking her milk with her "computer" open.  Looks like an executive in the making!

Molly has been getting better and better at eating with a fork.  Ravolli's in a bowl makes for an easy target.  Plus it's easier with her Mama's little fork (I knew I saved it for a reason) than those new fangled "baby" forks with the rounded tinges.  How can you stab anything with those!

Today (Friday, May 3rd) we put up our first section of gutters.  Bruce bought a packet of sheet metal and cut 2 "wedges" from each sheet.  All the eaves down here slope inward at the bottom.  Don't ask me why.  So you have to put metal wedges in so that the gutters will hang straight.  Home Depot wanted $2.09 a piece for them (we needed 60) and Bruce made them with $7. worth of sheet metal and 2 hours time.  Even painted them white to match the eaves and gutters!  They worked like a charm.

Saturday, May 4th (my parents wedding anniversary): Today we got the gutters up in the front of the house.  From one of the pictures you can see all the ugly plumbing that was hidden by the bush Bruce took out.   Eventually, we're going to replace all the siding in the front with the cement board siding they have out.  No more termites!

I finished puttying the redwood patio furniture.  Did some sanding on the ones I puttied yesterday.  Hopefully only one more sanding and I can start the painting.  We figure we've had that set of furniture for at least 34 years.  This is only the second time I've painted them.  It's amazing how well redwood furniture holds up.
