It's Been A Year!

Las Vegas
TV Room Break Through

After finishing up the front of the house we decided we needed a little R & R.  So we planned a 2 night stay in Las Vegas.  Got a cheap room at the Excalibur; mostly because from the aerial views, their pools looked the best.  They have 4 pools and one is for 18 and older.  Unfortunately, the pictures don't tell you that they have music blaring around all the pools and it's hard to find a vacant lounge to sit on.  We finally got a place at 5:30 when everyone was heading inside to clean up for dinner.  But we still couldn't relax and read cause of the music.  Plus the adult pool at the deepest is only 3 feet....yes the deepest part, most of the pool is only 10".  Everyone sits with their legs straight out sipping on drinks.

We decided not to stay a second night.  Head back home but stopped just short of the CA state line at Primm Valley Casino.  Nice large pool, no music and only $40 (that was with all the hotel fees and taxes).  So we lounged by the pool in a nice shaded cabana; swam and read most of the day.  Don't think there were more than 12 people in the pool area at one time.  I even managed to come home with $40 dollars more...paid for the room!

Today (well the day I started typing this) is the 1st anniversary of our move down here.  Even though we bought the house in June, we didn't move in full time until August 17th.  Hard to believe.

Today is also the start of the "TV room" renovation.  Bruce is (as I type) taking out the sheet rock on two walls in the room.  One wall because we're going to knock a doorway into the living room.  The other because we're getting a new wall mounted TV.  He wants to make sure we have all the blocking we need to hold the TV plus get all the wiring hidden in the walls.   As a reminder, here's a layout of the house.  We're using the front right bedroom as a TV room and putting a doorway (where the red rectangle is) into the living room.

Poor Bruce, this house is really out to get him.  Of course, the places we want some of the recessed lighting have heater ducting running over the ceiling.  Not to mention that the room is where two different slopes of the roof rafters meet.  Causing cramped space up in the attic.  He can only work up there in the morning because of the heat.  Apparently the wiring is a nightmare.  Which we've found in other parts of the house.  The wiring for the TV room runs to the guest bedroom some of the outlets in the living room, one outlet in the kitchen and some of the outlets in the garage.  Major rewiring has to happen.  He had more than on occasion to thank his lucky stars for all his phone company soldering experience.

On a personal note, I'm trying to sort through the mess that is Medicare Supplemental Insurance.  Having a broker come out to go over my options.  If Kaiser had a bigger presence in Ventura County I'd gladly stay with them.  I may for the next 5 to 10 years, then switch.  Just a headache trying to figure it all out.  No matter what I choose, it will be better than what I've been paying since our Cobra ran out.  Only 2 more months of high premiums!  YEA!  That is for me.  My baby of a husband has to wait till next year. :)

Look Gramma I found a quilt!
On the Molly front; the little girl is growing in leaps and bounds.   We're going to start having her here every Wednesday for awhile.   We have so much fun.
